[Prevalence of anti-HAV in the Spanish population]

The prevalence of Anti-HAV is investigated among 340 persons who weren´t hospitalized, belonging to different sotialeconomic levels in our country.
The difussion of the A virus increases with age and diminishes with the sotialeconomic level (low level 82% and medium level 62%, p<0,025).
The persons with a high risk of suffering hepatitis A are, in our country, younger then twenty years old. Among 296 persons, 114 who were Anti-HAV positive were analyzed for the Anti-HAV-IgM and none of them was positive. Only the 8% of the persons studied presented previous icterus stiry (88% and 74% respectively). The majority of these persons had a contact with the A virus is inapparent.
As the incidence of Anti-HAV is high in Spain, it should be necessary to make prophilaxis with immunoglobulines, specially among young people visiting Spain, coming from Northern countries.
Se investiga la prevalencia de Anti-HAV entre 340 personas no hospitalizadas, pertenecientes a diferentes niveles socioeconómicos de nuestro país. Se observó una incidencia standarizada a la edad del 75%.
La difusión del virus A aumenta con la edad y disminuye con el nivel socioeconómico (nivel bajo 82% y nivel medio 62%, p<0,025).
Las personas con alto riesgo de padecer hepatitis A son, en nuestro país, menores de 20 años. De 296 personas, 114 que eran anti-HAV positivo fueron analizadas para el Anti-HAV-IgM y ninguna resultó positiva. Sólo el 8% de las personas estudiadas presentaba historia previa de ictericia, pero no hubo diferencia significativa, respecto a la difusión del virus A, con las personas sin historia de ictericia (88% y 74% respectivamente). Al mayoría de las personas tuvieron contacto con el virus A hace mucho tiempo. Esto significa que el contacto con el virus A es inaparente.
Como la incidencia de Anti-HAV es alta en España, sería necesario hacer profilaxis con inmunoglobulinas, especialmente en gente joven que visita España, proveniente de países nórdicos.
